SUPER WHEAT.

XEW WHEAT AIAE-VEL. (Special to "Star.") SAX FRANCISCO, July IS. of acres in the Central West will be planted this year with a, superwheat, which yields from three to five bushels an acre more than the varieties now grown. T,he super-wheat is known us "Kanr'ed", developed through fourteen years of careful experiment, with a, single ,head brought from Russia. It promises completely to replace varieties now grown in the hard wheat areas, and to increase materially the grain ■production of the United States. Approximately lialf a-million acres were seeded with Kanred wheat last autumn. If the seed from this harvest be planted nest fall, t,lie acreage will be six or seven millions, and after that it is believed that use of the new variety will become general. The Kansas Crop Improvement Association, composed of 500 farmers, is endeavouring to have all the pure seed replanted. If is expected a -fourth of the hard wheat acreage iv Kansas, and large acreages in Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado and (South Dakota will be sown with Kanred. Eventually Kanred will be grown universally in the hard wheat country in the opinion of specialists at the Kansas Experiment StaVon in Manhattan, in the State of Kansas. Turkey or Kharkoff are the two varieties of wheat most commonly grown, says a statement issued from. Manhattan Experiment Station, and Kanred ihas demonstrated its superiority to these classes of wheat. It has been successfully grown in »vor- S_-,te of the hai-d wheat -belt, and it is confidently believed tfy experimental station workers to be better than any other variet/ grown as far North as South Dakota.
