CITY WATER SUPPLY.
CONSTRUCTION OF DAM. DELATED BY WET WEATHER. 1 Mr. J. H. Gunson (Mayor) stated this morning that the wet winter had interfered with progress in connection I with the construction of the small im- c pounding dam at Nihotupu, and this i work cannot now be recommenced before _ j early next summer. This small dam |j : will therefore not be ready for conserv- j ing water for the next dry season. This j , dam, when completed, will add \, ' 10,000,000 gallons to the quantity ot |. i water conserved for the following "sum- 't mer. Of course, when tho big dam, to i i conserve 500 million gallons of water, j > is completed in two or three years' time, < it should settle the question of an ade- j quate supply for a long period ahead. I. The Huia Valley offers great natural '( facilities for conservation dams for the it future, and there are other places in j< the ranges where big reservoirs can be ! i constructed -as the population of j < i Auckland increases. , ■■
