MEAT TRUST MENACE.
• .—, VIEWTED WITH ALARM. (By Telegraph.--(Special to "Star.") MA-STERTON. this day. ScaitJhang condemnation of the American Meat Trust and the proposal to grfe Armour and Co. a. license to operate ia Xew Zealand. was made on Saturday at a meeting- of farmers at Masterton by Mr. AY. Perry, who is patron of the M«terton Agricultural and As. elation, and a member of the Board of Agriculture. Mr. Perry issued a warning- to the farmers of Xew Zealand of the ,fanger that would arise, not only to •farmers but to the whole of the people of die Dominion, if the American Meat frust got a footing in New Zealand. At the result of the findingb of the Federal Trade Commission set up by President Wilson, the Meat Trust wa. given thr_ yeans in which to get out of America. Consequently, the trust was scouring otheT parts of the world in which to set up business. Mr. Perry contended that •propajrancia wa.s being- circulated in New Zealand in order to hoodwink the farmers, of the Dominion. There was no need for Armours to have a licence; tley could purchase meat f.o.h. and eend it anywhere in the world, but that fact wa* being carefully hidden from the fanner. I Mr. Perry said that the fate of Nelson | and ..on and other companies that th« j truet had sent on to the rocks would be the fate of farmers and of the farmerfreezing companies once the Meat Trust got its grip of New Zealand. He moved: "That this meeting of farmers view with alarm the efforts now being made to urge the Government to grant a meat trading license in New Zealand to Armour and Co., and would strongly urge the Covern-ment to do aj.l within their -power to keep combines such as the Meat Trust from operating in Sen Zealand." The meeting was thoroughly in sympathy with Mr. (Perry's remarks, and carried tbe resolution unanimously. __________________ i
