AUSTRALIA'S GOVERNOR.
LORJ> FORSTER CHOSEN. A SPORTING PEER. (Received 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 14. Lord Forster, formerly member of the Sevcnoaka Division of Kent, has been appointed Governor-General of Australia. He is a sound constitutionalist, and is regarded as a capable administrator. He played cricket against the Australians during their visit to England.— (A. and N.Z. Cable.) Lord Forster, formerly Mr. H. W. Forster, is fifty-four years of age. He is the son of Major John Forster, and was born in Lewisham, Kent, and waseducated at Eton and Oxford. A fine bat and a first class field,Jie represented beth school nnd university at cricket. He later joined the Kent eleven and played for the Gentlemen against the Players and also against the Australians. He was elected to Parliament for Sevenoaks 27 years ago, and has eat continuously since for the same constituency. Ho was made one of the Commissioners of the Treasury in 1002, holding that post for three years. He took a large share in shaping the National Insurance scheme during its progress through Parliament, greatly enhancing his reputation by the suggestions he made. In May, 1915, he joined the Coalition Ministry as Financial Secretary to the War Office, a post which he held until his retirement from the House on his elevation to the Peerage. Lord Foreter was president of the M.C.C. last year. He was married in 1890 to the Hon. Kachael Montague, daughter of Lord Mantagu of Beaulieu, nnd they have one son and two daughters, one of whom is married to the Hon. Harold Lubbock, third eon of Lord Avebury. _
