ASSAULTS ON GIRLS.
FLOGGING AS A DETERRENT.

CHRISTCHiURCH, this day.
In connection with the criminal aeasions which opened to-day, the Grand Jury found a true bill against a man charged with assaulting a girl in Hagley Park, and submitted a rider "that, in the opinion of the Grand Jury, flogging ehould form part of the punishment in eases were accused persons are convicted of indecent assault on young girls." Mr. Justice Herdman said casee of thie character differed, but he would give consideration to the jury's finding.
