(Before Mr. J. E. Wilson, S_l.)' DRUNKENNESS. ' ■Margaret Wilkie (71), who had been caught drunk for the third time within the half-year,-was fined 20/, in default 96 hours' imprisonment; and Samuel Gaskell (50), who had done it only twice recently, w_ fined 10/, in default 43 hours' imprisonment. One first offender forfeited bail, and one was convicted and discharged. TO BE KEPT SAFE. Joseph King (2.1), a member of the e.s. Northumberland's crew, whose health was such as to cause him to be rated- a prohibited immigrant, was up for using obscene language, and being absent from the ship without leave, and was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment in order that he may receive medical treatment pending the sailing of hi 6 ship.

SEXUAL OFFENCES ALLEGED.

William Baden Powell Avers (19) on a charge of unlawful carnal knowledge at Devonport, was remanded for a week, bail being fixed at one surety of £150. Percival Hoskyns Roberts Homer (45) was remanded for a week on a charge .of indecent assault on a little girl, bail being sxed at one surety of £100.

BEYOND THE PALE. Edward Bailey admitted a charge of having trespassed on the Takapuna racecourse on January 29; being a person who is excluded by regulation as undesirable. Mr. A. Moody, for him, stated that the man had of recent years been showing marked signs of mending his ways, and that though he had frequently gone to races this was the first- time he had been notiaed that his presence was not wanted, or that he came within the regulations of exclusion. The Chief Detective endorsed counsel's remarks as to Bailey's endeavours to retrieve a shady past, and his Worship remarked that under the circumstances he would merely convict Bailey, and order him to pay the costs, 9/, as a warning. January 8 they were found on the premises of a Dalmatian restaurant when a constable entered and seized liquor. Subsequently Malicich was | fined £50 for sly-grog selling. Counsel for defendants stated that they came to I town for the holidays, and as Malicch I had come from the same village in their ' native country they dropped in to have a talk with him after leaving the Opera douse on the night in question.
