OTHER PEOPLE'S CARS.
ANOTHER ILLICIT JOY-EITJE. As the result ot a week-end joy-ride a young man named John Francis Prendergast (22) was charged before Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M., to-day that on Saturday he unlawfully and without colour of right, took and converted to his own use a motor car belonging to the Defence Department. He had been employed at the Auckland Hospital, and had been tempted 'or a fine overland motor car. which the Defence Department kept in a garage handy to the hospital. On Saturday he took the car and went with Borne companions to Hamilton, returning on Monday and leavinsr the car outside the garage. It was found that the car had suffered damage to the extent of £12 17/6. Hitherto Prendergast had borne a good character.
Accused was convicted and put on probation for twelve months, with a condition that he should make restitution for the damage done. His Worship added that a continuance of this offence would force the Court to make imprisonment the. only penalty.
