ENGINEERS' STRIKE.
CANCELLATION OF INSTITUTE. UNION STILL REGISTERED. I Received 1.10 p.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Mr. Hughes stated to-day that the proclamation prohibiting the Engineers' Union from withdrawing funds from banks i> not intended to apply to enpincers' private banking accounts. The Commonwealth steamship owners were granted a rule nisi for the cancellation of the registration of the Institute of Marine Engineers. Mr. Justice Higgins stated that he would require a much stronger case to induce him to de-register the union.— (A. and X.Z.)
THE LOCKED XTP FUNDS. UNIONISTS EXCITED. SYDXEY, this day. The Federal Cabinet's action in lockIng up the funds of the marine engineers has caused considerable excitement in union circles. Although officials of the Marine Engineers' Institute view the move with equanimity they regard the proclamation as a moans to prevent tile institute from purchasing the Island fleet of Burns, Philp and Company. Otherwise, beyond seeking legal advice, the officials refuse to discuss the position owing to the faot that Government action has been taken under the War Precautions Act.
Under the terms of the proclamation a Tiank refused an engineer permission to withdraw a portion of his private account.—(A. and X.Z. Cable.)
