LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.
UREWERA AND OTAMARAKAU. , The Hon. D. H.(Guthrie (Minister of Lands) will visit (the Urewera Country next week to view for himself those areas of land that may lie suitable to purchase for settlement anil those areas already purchased that maw be suitable for immediate .subdivision md settlement. He will later visit Hoskinf£s Estate, in the Otamarakau district, which was purchased for settlement by returned soldiers, in respect of which al request has been made tliat the land sheiuld be thrown open for selection on the usual conditions for all returned men, whether European or Maori. A block of 48 acres adjoining the Ruakura State Farn on the Hamilton borough boundary ut Claudelands will in all probability be cut up and leased shortly in small lots. The Minister of Lands l;a» announced the following purchases of estates in the Nelson district for the settlement of returned soldiers: 3835 acres, Motupiko Valley; 7383 aires, Marvia, Murchison: 2706 acres, Matakitaki station. Murchison: 1355 acre:;, Tukaki, 17 miles from Murchison. The purchase has also been made of 2140 acres of Ormond's Estate, at Wallingford, Hawkj's Bay.
