OPENING OF INQUIRY. LONDON, November 0. The inquiry ordered by the Australian military authorities into the circumstances of the fitting of tfee Wainmnn as a troopship has begun, (ieneral Wisdom is president of the Court, ami 1 '••>t f .- Colonel Murphy and Lieut.-Colonel Whitham as members.

The Court to-day visited Tilbury, and examined tin- Wairaana and inspected the uncovered wharf where the wives and children of soldiers who were to have proceeded by the Waimana suffered great discomfort, owing to rain and exposure-. The Court also examined tin , tender which was employed to convey from the wharf to the Waimana. and to two other vessels Ivinir i" mid-stream. The tender also maintained a ferry service.
