SERIOUS CHARGES.

(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. In the Magistrate's Court, before Messrs. Moore and Wallnutt, Justices, Alexander W. Bawden, a railway porter, at Waihi, was charged with indecently assaulting a male child, also three little girls, at Waihi, in August last. SeniorSergeant O'Grady appeared for the police, and accused was represented by Mr. Clendon. The bench dismissed the first charge, but convicted accused on a charge of common assault, and imposed a fine of £5 with costs. Accused was com? mittcd for trial at the November sittings of the Supreme Court at Auckland on two of three charges of indecent assault against girls, the third charge Ibeing dismissed. Bail was allowed —two sureties of £150 each, and accused in £150.
