HONOURING THE DEAD.
THE WHITEHALL CENOTAPH. (Received 0.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 10. Following France's proposal to honour her 1,300,000 dead by burying an unnamed poilu in the Pantheon at Paris, it is suggested that a British private be buried in the cenotaph at Whitehall, which would thus gain a sacrcdness that is absent while it remains an empty tomb.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
