PERSONAL.
Dr. A. W. Averill and Archdeacon Hawkins returned from Whangarei by tiie Manaia last night. Mr. Justice Cooper arrived to-day by train from Hamilton, where he had been presiding at the sittings of the Supreme Court. Dr. ,T. P. D. Leahy has been appointed to the charge of bhe eoldiers' ward at Napier Hospital. Mr. Harry Dearth, the English baritone, and Miss Carlien Jurs, pianist, arrived in Wellington from Sydney by the Manuka. The Rev. A. S. Wilson, of Perth, W.A., arrived by the express this morning from Wellington, having come via Sydney for the purpose of filling the pulpit at the Auckland Baptisjt Tabernacle for the next three months. Mr. Wilson starts; hie duties next Sunday. ] Mr. E. Pay, who has been messenger . and caretaker at the Magistrate's Court ' for eight years, lias been appointed chief i messenger and caretaker of the Government Buildings at Nelson. He lias also been appointed inspector of weights and measures at Nelson. Mr. F. W. Tighe, of the Military Pay Office Department, succeeds Mr. Pay at the Magistrate's Court, Wellington.
