Referring to extravagance, in the course of an address on "The Financial Outlook" to members of t2ie Napier Chamber of Commerce, Sir Robert Stout said that people rushed to places ot amusement as if their homes were not Suitable for anything but to eat and sleep in. The wealthy people should set the example of the simple life—simple in drese.. amusement, food, and drink. Capital was required for increasing- production, building houses, improving the educational system, etc. This could be obtained by hijrfier thoughts and simpler living. The value of 3982 motor cars in Hawke's Bay would more than pay for the railway from Napier to Gis'borne. Wages should be settled by a labour tribunal, antl tliose not prepared to abide by decisions should 'be told they were not wanted in Xew Zealand. Strikes were civil 'war, and Should be abolished.
