ASSOCIATION'S MEETING. < The Auckland Presbyterian Social ij Service Association held its fifth annual . meetinginSt. .lames' Hall last evening, the Rev. 1. Jolly presiding. The superin- I tendent, Rev. F. 11. Jeffreys, and Mrs. Jeffreys were unable to lie present owing to domestic troubles, and the death of Miss Couston at the manse. A motion of sympathy with Mi=s Couston's relatives was passed. '• i In the president's address, he stressed the importance of the association's work, and of the Church's responsibilities. He stated that Auckland had hitherto been the laggard of the New Zealand cities, but it must be so no longer. I The Rev. U. D. Scott spoke on the different views held of life—those of the humanitarian, and these of the folk who looked on life as a transitory state.' He stated that social service embodied both of these views, and minimised their absurdities. The Rev. W. Kinmont, of OtagO, spoke of the infinite degree to which thie work could and must be carried. He spoke oi | the definite commands given in the New. Testament to work of this kind, as there, was not a great deal about worship and devotion, but a great deal about the I active work to be done in helping the j needy, visiting the sick, and aiding 1 those who could not help themselves, i Mr. R.
