Mr. J. A. Young, M.P. for "Waikato, who has been on a brief visit to the city, will return to Hamilton to-morrow. The Key. Harrington Lees, Vicar of Swansea, has refused the Biehopric of Ballarat, to which he was elected. —Press Association. Mr. J. G. Coates, M.P. for Kaipara, will leave to-morrow morning on his return to Dargayiile, after attending the education conference.
The Rev. J. M. Steward, Bishop-elect of Melanesia, arrived in Auckland by the mission steamer Southern Cress. For sixteen years he has been occupied in missionary work in the Solomon Islands, and was recently elected to the bishopric of Melanesia by a meeting of mission clergy at Xorfolk Island. If bis election is confirmed by the Anglican Church authorities in Xew Zealand he will probably be consecrated at Auckland.
In a letter to Iris father. Major F. P. Tymons, of the New Zealand Dental Corps, and prior to the war practising in Christchurch, states that he has been made the recipient of the Order of the British Empire. "This," he says, "is the first honour granted to the NewZealand Dental Corps for their -work during the war, and I feel proud to have been singled out." Major Tymons. who started at the beginning of the war as a lieutenant, ha 6 been on active duty ever since.
