Miss Phyllis Alexander, are visiting Wellington. Hiss Jean Gray and Miss Gilmore. of Dunedin, who have been visiting Auckland, have left for the South. The Rev. F. Carew Thomas, and Mrs. Carew-Thomas, formerly of Cambridge, arrived at Stonehurst yesterday. A very enjoyable peace dance mrrv was rriven on Mondiv eveninrr at "Bnsr- :- ham." the En-nm home of Mrs. L S. Hardlev. Concert items were intersperse! with the many dances, and a well arranged pror/ramme was contributed by, Mi=s Muriel Frost. Miss Eileen Mu'vaney. Madame Laura Daw, and Mes-rs. c.j Maeklow, and Ken Tmpett. Mesdames Hardley and Maefarlane were respons'bie: for the excellent supoer arrangements. Others present included Mrs. and Dr. Findlav, Misees Molly an.l Jean Maefarlane, Norma Ifwersen. Dorothy Roaehe. Messrs. Roly McCrystal, A. E'Ks, C. Gallagher, and C. R. and L. Hardley. A feature of the evening was, the twilight dance, when a novelty was; introduced by having the ballroom lit only with little Chinese lanterns on stands, placed at intervals round the room. Hemingway and Robertson in the Masonic Hall on Friday last. The hall was prettily decorated with flags, arum lilies, and ferns. The committee responsible for the arrangements consisted of Mrs. Porter. Misses Devine, South, and Parr, and Messrs. A. Turner (M.C.I. Nello Porter. Baigent. and Cremen. The ehaperones were Mesdames Porter. South, O'Connor. Edwards, and McPhail. The supper was spread in the supper room upstairs, and the tables looked very pretty with the scheme of purple and gold carried out in daffodils and anenomes. Among those present were: Miss Currie. Auckland possesses a large number of women who are keenly interested in water-colour painting who have no common meeting gTound where they can foregather and exchange views on this most deleetaulf and elusive branch of the fine arts, auc it is hoped that in the future these stir dents who are struggling alone will bt able io meet each other and compart notes as well as come in touch with tin art workers who ofttimes reach ou: shores and pass through the city withou recognition.
