NEW ZEALAND SQUADRON.
A PREMATURE A XXOI"XCEMENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) "WELLINGTON, Monday. Sir James Allen, Minister of Defence, said to-day that he had no knowledge of thr subject matter of the cablegram referring to the formation of a t-<]uadron for the New Zealand station. Nothing had been done in New Zealand about it. and nothing would be done until Lord Jcllicoe had reported. The cablegram referred to etates that according to the naval correspondent of the "Daily Express" negotiations are in progress between the Admiralty and New Zealand for the formation of a squadron on the Xew Zealand station, it being understood that New Zealand is willing to make an annual payment for up-to-date vessels.
