LIEUT. R. S. JUDSON, V.C.
ENTERTAINED BY DRUIDS. Lieut. E. S. Judson, V.C., D.C.M., and M.M., was tendered a reception la*t evening by the brethren of the Druids' Lodge. Ponsonby, of which he is a member. There was a very large gathering, representatives being present from all the other Druid Lodges in Auckland and suburbs. Arch-Druid Bro. F. Jackson, presided. Amongst those present were: Past-Grand Presidents W. .Jennings, M.P.. W. Hunter, A. J. Thompson, and \V. Blomfield (Mayor of Takapuna). At the supper, the chairman, in proposing the health of the guest, said Lieut. Judson had nobly carried out the instructions of the ritual, in maintaining the reputation of the order. The "Diggers" were as good a body of Britishers, but all men required leaders to tike the initiative, and it wae such leaders who opened up the path to victory. Sui-h a man was Lieut. Judson. In the course of his reply Lieut. Judson repeated his statement made at the civic reception that his decorations belonged to "the fellows who ivere with the regiment during the push." He added it was the confidence in the men who were ba/cking him thai gave him courage. A man could not win decorations on his own. He had to have support directly or indirectly. It was to the "Digger" that a great deJil of the success was due. During the evening a number of musical itejns were given, and the whole alFnir was enjoyable.
