DEAL IN DRAPERY.

I . BUSINESS CHANGES HANDS. In these hard times, when prices are ever rising and materials are not always what they might be, or even what they once were, the news of a big transaction in drapery ought to create a good deal of interest to the buying public. One of the very old general clothing and drapery businesses in this eitv, one that was founded by Mr Hobbs, and has for many years been conducted by Messrs Bridgmau and Bridgman, lias changed bands, and its stock that has been valued' at something in the neighbourhood of £10,000, has been taken over by ''The Economic." This well-known business on Queen Street, opposite the Town Hall, has for many years held a solid reputation for the range, the quality and the value of its merchandise. The stocks have all been well bought, and this new firm is considered to be fortunate in having secured them at a figure based upon costs of years ago. A complete overhaul of the stocks is now being undertaken by the new owners, r.nd so these premises will be closed until next Thursday, when a great clear-away sale will be commenced. See our window displays for a combination of patriotic, dressing and a showing of good goods.—Geo. Fowlds.— (Ad.)
