NO BREAD ON SATURDAY.
BAKERS TO CLOSE. | At a meeting of the Auckland master bakers it was decided to observe Satur- j j day next as a close holiday. There will I consequently be no delivery of bread in the city and suburbs*on .that day. The j master bakers intimate that they would > have liked to mark the occasion of the ! Peace celebrations by observing Mon- | day as a' holiday, also, hut this was j found to be impracticable. It would be j almost impossible to bake sufficient bread on Friday to carry the public over until i Tuesday. To bake the quantity of •bread that would be required would necessitate the bakers in some of the •larger businesses working continuously for as long as thirty hours. The employees themselves did not desire this, ' and the holiday has, therefore, been con- ' fined to the one day—Saturday.
