A WIDE UPHEAVAL.
FIGHT NOT PEACEFUIi ONE. OPPOSED BY SOME UNIONS. SYDNEY, July 11. The Labour Council lias agreed to support the seamen financially, and ie arranging a mass demonstration of all workers. The secretary to the Labour Council expresses the opinion that this means a wide upheaval. The proposal to arrest the leaders of the seamen's strike would only embitter the men. The evidence pointed to a wave of unrest going tc surge throughout the Commonwealth He warned the Government that the fight would not be a 'peaceful one. He feared that what had happened in other countries would happen here. On the ofrher hand a large section of unionists opposes a general strike. The majority of the unions are short oi funds, and an upheaval would be disastrous. —(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
