AUSTRALIAN INTERESTS. COMMITTEE IN LONDON. LOKDON", July 11. During his visit to England, the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr \V. M. Hughes, was actively engaged in expanding and improving the business relations between Australia and Britain. Matters were sufficiently advanced before he sailed for him to appoint a committee to carry on the scheme to a practical This committee will tentatively form the -nucleus of a larger body to develop the plan. Mr Hughes hopes to secure the co-operation of the various States in order to prevent competition in selling Australian products, and in order to secure the best prices. He met with the most friendly support from the various Agents-General. While trade with Britain will be developed to the uttermost, Mr Hughes also arranged for representatives in France and Italy to co-operate with the British committee in placing Australian products in those countries. It is believed the new'scheme will improve Australia's markets abroad. It may lead to the reorganisation of the High Commissioner's department in the direction of bringing it into closer and more active touch with commercial affairs, instead of being largely an official department. Before the Prime Minister left England a representative of an important automobile firm approached him wiith a view to establishing works in Australia—(A: and N.Z. Cable.)
