SOCIETY BEAUTY'S TRAGEDY.
BLOWS HER HEAD OFF. LONDON, July 10. A sensational West Knd tragedy was discovered to-day. Mrs Atherton, a famous society beauty, divorced in 100G, was found ds-ud in her bedroom with part of her hoad blown away. A sporting gun was on the floor, and the door had been barricaded. Mrs Atherton recently married Captain Eliot, grandson of the Earl St. Germans, but the couple separated, the estrangement causing her depression. Apparently she placed the butt of the gun on the floor, and pressed the trigger with her foot. She left letters indicating that she contemplated suicide. Mrs Atherton's maid heard her mistress enter the flat, and then heard the report of a pun. She called r. doctor, and they found Mrs Atherton dead, wearing evening dress and a pearl necklace. Her husband collaborated irith Captain Bruce Bairnsfather in the play "A Better 'Ole." (A. and N.Z. Cable.)
