DEARER COAL.
MANUFACTURERS ALARMED. LOSS OF EXPORT TRADE . FEARED. (Received 10.35 a.m.) LONDON, July 10. There are many protests in the industrial centres against the increase in the price of coal. Manufacturers of Sheffield, Nottingham, and Bradford are alarmed at the prospect of losing the country's trade. The "Daily JSTews" asserts that the increase is a political manoeuvre designed to discredit nationalisation.—(A. and X.Z. Cable.) LONDON, July 10. Sir Auckland Geddes announced in the House of Commons last night that the retail price of coal was rising 6/ a ton next -week, in consequence of the Coal Commission's recommendation for shorter hours and higher wages.
