OLD MAN'S DEATH.

CORONER'S INQUIRY. DRIVER'S EVIDENCE REQUIRED. An inquest into the rauso of the death of John Tuohey, aged S-> years, who died at the hospital yesterday afternoon, was held at the morgue before Mr J.- K f Wilson. S.MV.ttiis morning. Deceased was admitted to the Public Hospital on "2nd July, suffering from a scalp wound, subsequent to his being knockfd down by a cab. \V. Van Wart testified that he was in Queen Street about 0.40 n.m. on tlie 2nd July. He noticed a i-ab being driven up Queen Street. He knew the driver bj name and by sight. He heard the clattet of horses' hoofs, as if they had been frightened, and noticed a man under the horses' bodies. The driver checked his horses almost to a standstill, looked back over the cab. and drove on. Witness did not see the man knocked down but his impression was that he wa; knoi-ked down right in front of ths horses. In his opinion, the driver shouli have been able to see clearly anyon; crossing the street, which was wel lighted at this point. The old man thei rose and sat on the side of the pave merit, as thouph he were not badly hurt The horses were restive animals, bul they did not seem to be out of theii ordinary pace. He heard no call. Eileen Duggan gave corroborative cvi denre. The inquest was adjourned in ordei to permit the driver of the cab to gel legal advice. c
