MOUNT EDEN SCHOOL.
DRAINAGE AND CROWDING, REPLY TO HOUSEHOLDERS, At la£t ni<rhfs meeting of the Mt. Eden School (.'ommittec a .written request was received signed by several parents asking the committee to call a meeting of householders to consider the eubjecU of school drainage and overcrowding. Tt was resolved to reply as follows: "That matters arising from the publicity given to the drainage at the Mt. Hden school, and the reasons advanced by the per-ons asking for a householders' meeting «erp fully considered. The , members of the committee were Unanimously of opinion that the defect in connection with tho working of the peptic tank whrn noticed was at once reported by the headmaster and committee, and promprty attended to hy tiie Kpard of Education. Further, the members are satisfied that the best interests and welfare of the children were quite safe in the haiitis of our headmaster and hi- staff. School sanitation was specially brought under the notice of parents at the annual meeting of householders lii>t April, and the tnemberi of the committee regret that those now desiring another meeting did not actively interest themselves in this very important mhjec-t. "The question of overcrowding has been constantly brought under the notice of the authorities. The erection of a new school in the district has been authorised, and as published in the local papers on .June 25 last, the secretary of the Board of Education wrote to the Kducation Department. Wellington, strongly urging consent to the establishment of two temporary schools in halls which are available. "For the above reasons, and seeingthat [ only nine persons out of about 509 i parents suggest the calling of a house- , holders' meeting, that the committee do not see that any immediate good purpose would be served in acceding to i the request. At the game time the mcmi bers desire to point out that parents •'on their own initiative can at any time i call such meetings, and the membera of ! the committee will always welcome the : additional support and active interest of • parents in all matters whereby the ch.il- > dren can be educated under the happiest » and most pleasant and wholesome con- ;, ditione.
