HOW BEST EXPENDED. COMPETITION FOR THRIFTY HOUSEKEEPERS. There has been so mucii discussion recently on the subject of the high cost of living that very great interest attaches to the question of how wages are best expended in supporting a family. Tho ""Auckland Star," with a view to showing how the wage can be most judiciously laid out, offers a prize of £:t for the best paper on how to expend a wage of £i per week to greatest advantage in the case of a family in which there are not less than two children. The conditions under which this prize is offered are as under: — (1) Paper not to exceed 800 words in •length. (2) Competitors may use a norn de plume, but must enclose real name and address. (.'{) All papers to reach the '"Star" office not later than July 11. (4) The decision of the Editor is to be regarded as final in awarding the prize. (5) All papers to become the property of 'The Auckland Star" for publication or not, at the discretion of the Editor.
