AUCKLAND FIRE BRIGADE.
AGREEMENT REACHED. The conference under tho Labour Disputes Investigation Act resulted in a ■fuQ settlement being arrived at yesterday afternoon in the case filed by the' Auckland Fire Brigades against the Auckland Eire Board. Considerable time was spent discussing matters, and finally an amicable settlement was made. The new scale of wages is as follows, the old ecale being in parentheses:—'Firemen: First three months' service, £3 (£2 10/); three to nine months, £3 2/15 (£2 12/6); nine to 21 months, £3 5/ (£2 16/); 21 months to three years, £3 10/ (not previously provided for); over three years £3 37/6 (£3 2/6). Motormen: First three months' service, £3 5/ (£2 15/); three to nine months, £3 10/ (t£3); nine to 21 months, £3 15/ (£3 5/); over 21 months, £4 2/6 (£3 10/). Watchroom attendants (not previously provided for): Youths, £1 15/; three to nine month), service, £2; nine to 21 months, £2 5/; over 21 months, £2 10/. Married men not provided with quarters are to receive a. house allowance of 14/ a week (12/6). Each member of the brigade is to receive 14 consecutive days' holiday, including Sundays, on full| pay each year; this holiday will be due on the anniversary of joining the brigade, -and is to be given within the] month before or after that date. less than seven days' notice of the date| on which the employee is required to f take the holiday is to be given by the superintendent. Leave of 24 hours instead of 15 hours shall be given every sixth day, commencing at 9 a.m., and one night of 6 hours, commencing at 5 p.m., every seven days. Firemen in the watch-tower are to be allowed the watch off once in seven days. Any matter incidental to or arising out of the agreement is to be determined by a committee consisting of one representative appointed by each party to the agreement. In the event of no agreement being arrived at the matter is to be referred to the conciliation commissioner, whose decision shall be final. The agreement has been made retrospective from March 1, 1919, and the term is two years. Mr J. J. Kingston, for the Board, moved a vote of thanks to Mr. T.
