PROTESTS AGAINST DELAY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WESTPORT, Thursday. A conference of the Buller and Reefton Railway League was held in Westport to-day, when strong exception was taken to the delay in the completion of the construction of the Buller Gorge Railway. Reefton members pointed out that timber and coal were being taken dut of . The Inangabua and Buller valleys and dragged up over the saddle to Reefton and thence to Greymouth, whereas they ' could, if the railway was completed, be much more easily and cheaply brought to Westport. Members of the league blamed the Government for the present shortage of coal, due in a large measure, | they said, to failure to complete the Bui- j ler (lorge line and enable the immense I coalfields there to be developed. j The combined leagues resolved to send I a circular letter to all members of Parliament, and also to send a deputation comprising members of the league and local bodies to Wellington, to place the facts concerning the Buller railway and j coalfields before Parliament. Also to ask the Government to arrange for a week- | end Parliamentary trip to this district, ] ■io that the members may have firsthand information as regards the _ need , for the immediate construction of the railway. j.
