ON' PRIXCE OF WALES' VISIT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. The proposal of the Mayor. Dr. Thaeker, M.T.. to hold special trottintf meetings in the city on the occasions at the visits of the ; Prince of Wales and Lord Jellicoe is taking definite shape. A deputation from the Xew Brighton Trotting Club waited on the Mayor today, and stated thnt their club had approved the proposal to hold a special meeting of four races on each occasion, and it wns considered that the Metropolitan. Canterbury Park. Xew BripJHon. and Ashlmrton Trotting Clubs should work together in th.> matter, and appoint a board of control for the two meetings. "As a result of discussion with the deputation," said Dr. Thncker, subsequently, "I have made application to the Minister for Internal AtTalrs for the necessary permits. There is a precedent. When the American Fleet was in Auckland a special trotting meeting was held. The president of the New Zealand Trotting Association, Mr. P. Sells, and other m—nhers of that body favour the project. The idea is that if I permits can be obtained the associated clubs will be nMe to put up such substantial stakes that the best horses In New Zealand and Australia will Tie brought hero for the meetings." AUSTRALIAN RACING. SYDNEY, June 5. The entries for the l)ig events at the Xew South Wales and Victorian spring race meetings are still incomplete, hut already show considerable increases on those of last year.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
