CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

AGRICULTURAL INSTRUCTION. DILWORTH TRUST PROPERTY. A meeting of the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday afternoon, the president, Mr. M. MeCallum, occuping the chair. The question of whether the Dilworth Trust Property at Papatoetoe should be acquired for the purposes of a school of agriculture was raised by a letter which was received from the supervisor of technical education, Mr. J. P. Kalaugher. He asked that the council give its consideration to the matter, and forwarded a copy of a resolution which the Education Board had passed in conference with a number of other educational authorities, urging the desirability of the purchase of the property.

Members of the council generally expressed their agreement with the importance of agricultural training, and expressed their willingness to do anything that might help such a cause. A committee, consisting of Messrs. J. H. Upton, A. B. Roberton, and H. W. Hudson, was set up for the purpose of meeting the chairman of the Dihvorth Trust Board. Mr. H. B. Morton, with whom they will confer and report to the council.

Two letters from dealers in ammunition and arms were received asking that the Chamber use its influence in having the restrictions on the sale of rifles, revolvers and cartridges removed. The writers of the letters contended that, while the regulation imposing this restriction was very necessary in war-time it was now unnecessary when conditions were changed. Large numbers of people were finding it very inconvenient to have to obtain a police permit before they could purchase ammunition in any quantity. The Council, while agreeing that the regulation might cause many difficulties, decided to take no action at Jpresent.
