Herries paid a visit to Te Aroba on Friday, on his return trip from the Bay of Plenty district. Cr. J. 15. Thomas' presided at a special meeting of the Piako County Council on. Thursday. The tender of E. Keen for formation work on the Maungakawa Boad, near T« iliro Soldier' Settlement, was accepted. A resolution empowering tne County to borrow from the Bank of Kew Zealand, by way of overdraft, up to £L2,OUU, In any one year, was passed. The Council decided It could not support the Returned Soldiers' Club at Hunrllton, preferring to support one at Te Aroha. It was decided to take a poll of ratepayers on the proposal to borrow £7000 Xor a quarry, the FubUe Trustee having offered to provide tne money. Tiiere wan a large attendance at the annual meeting of members uf St. Mark's Church. The Rev. K. Connolly was welcomed to the obarge, on being Introduced by Mr. G. A. Cornish, people's warden. The annual report was reud by the secretary, Mr. A. F. Burton, and the balance-sheet bj the treasurer, Mr. G. Simpson. The receipts for the year were £253 18/9, and expenditure £322 14/11- The secretary stated the debit balance at the Bank hiid since been p.iid off by receipt of donations. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The followir*: officers for tne year were elected.—Vicar's warden, Mr. N. J. Ray; people's warden, Mr. G. A. Cornish; vestry, Messrs. F. Hughes, F. Strange, G. Hedge, G. Dransfleld, E. A. Bruce, A. F. Burton, J. M. Bell, W. H. Diamond, W. Deamer, and A. H. Caudwall. ROTOBTTA. Mr. A. K. Mulgan, chief inspector of the Auckland Education Board, paid n visit of Inspection to the Rotorua District High School, extending over two days. He left for Wlmkntane and Opotlkl yesterday. Major Tattersall and Corporal McPherson have left for CbriHtchurch as delegates of the Rotorua branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association to attend the annual conference. At the annual meeting of the parishioners of St. Luke's parish the vicar, Canon !•'. W. Chntterton, presiding, Mr. J. Wrathnll, the people's churchwarden, rend the balance-sheet for three quarters, which showed n credit balance of £158 13/0, of which £145 whs car-marked for the cost ol the new kitchen at the parish hall and other purposes. The vicar gave a comprehensive outlino of the needs of the parish, und of the measure)! he intended to take to cope with them. The vicar re-appointed Mr. J. Halkett as vicar's churchwarden, and Mr. J. Wratball was re-elected people's churchwarden. The following were elected vestrymen: Messrs. 0. W. Kxull, W. W. P. Hall. F. 11. I'.amard, W. T. Takes. G. E. Skellern, A. G. Christopher. A. 11. Foggln, W A. Carter, and A. S. Ilawke. Messrs. J. Halkett and J. WrotunU were ro-elocted as synodsmen, and Mr. J. W. Webber as iimlitor. Mr. W. T. Hambly. wool expert for the Auckland Education Iloiird, will arrive in Ilotonin shortly to conduct a course of lectures In wool-classing for returned soldiers and civilians.
