TROOPSHIP KIA ORA.
ARRIVAL AT LYTTELTON. INFLUENZA OS BOARD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTOHURCH, Wednesday. The transport Kia Ora, with a larjja draft of troops, arrived in the stream at Lyttelton at 5.30 o'clock this evening, The port health officer on boarding the vessel discovered one case of influenza among- the crew, in add : tion to several soldiers in the convalescent stage The ship will, therefore, not be released from quarantine before Friday morning. It is likely that the patient, contaots, and convalescents will be removed ta Quail Island. 'Permission has been given te tha Defence officers, under certain restrictions, to board the vessel to-raorrow to prepare for the disembarkation of the troops. __'• The distri.t and port health officer* w-ill confer in the morning as to whafc further sterps shall be taken fn regard to the outbreak of influenza aboard. The voyage from England was very smooth and pleasant, and the men j appear to 'be in high spirits. The health j officer's launch, when it arrived at tha vessels^side to-night, was greeted with ringing cheers from the soldiers, wno were crowded on the decks. The doctor | was bombarded with questions regard-ng ) the probable duration of the quarantine priod, the men appearing -to be very anxious to be released as early as. possible. The transport's medical officer is Dr. George Craig. D.5.0., of Auckland, who was nt one time medical officer of tha Cook Islands. A CAREFUL EXAMINATION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
