FATAL ACCIDENTS.

ELDERLY MAN KILLED. KNOCKED DOWN BY* MOTOR. (P-.v Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. An elderly man named David Henderson Brown, aged 63 years, was knocked town by a motor-car last night, and died n tho hospital early this morning. At the inquest the evidence of tho iriver of the car, C. Barnett, and tho occupants went to show that the deleased was encountered suddenly on the middle of the road, and though everything possible was done to avoid him, one of the headlights struck him, and threw him on the bonnet of the car. from which he fell on to the road. The car was travelling at 12 to 15 miles an hour. The inquest was adjourned to enable a post-mortem to be held. DEATH UNDER AXARSTOTETIC. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Friday. The inquest into the circumstances nurrounding tbe death of Annie Tonner, who died under an anaesthetic at the hospital last week, was concluded to-day. Dr. Drennan's evidence was to the effect that the deceased died suddenly from heart failure, due to an inflammatory condition over the left lung and over the heart, and thnt death might have occurred suddenly apart from any anaesthetic or operative interference. In view of the deceased's condition, the operation was the only possible resort. A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was returned. WELLINGTON RAILWAY FATALITY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. At the inquest on the body of Donald Rennie, a seaman who died in hospital last night as the result of injuries received, through being run over by a shunting engine on the Railway wharf, there was no evidence showing how deceased came to be lying on the railway line, and there were no signs of liquor on deceased, who was conscious after the accident, and was able to give his name to the engine-driver. The coroner said it was mysterious how a man who was both sober and conscious should be lying across the railway line. An open verdict I was returned. The coronet- added that no blame was attachable to the enginedriver. ____
