Maronne has improved considerably since .she raced at the last Musterlou meeting m Marcn, and the Wuirarapa meeting nine days earlier. She cut a most inglorious figure at both these meetings. Though unplaced on Saturday at the Wairarapa Autumn .Meeting, she showed a cnusiderable improvement on her previous efforts. On the secoud day the Martian Ully got quickly oil the mark with her stable mate Chaernnia. and the pair soou put considerable daylight between them and the rest of the field. The Demosthenes filly began to tire down the straight, but Marnnne pegged away and shook off Manila and Speechmaker, winning eventually by a length. .Maronne Is not a big made filly, but the improvement In her speed was very notice-

The favourite Battle Array was hndly ridden in the big money on the second day at Tauherenikau. lie certainly led into the straight, but the effort to get him therp from the outside apparently took too much out of the Signor gelding, because he could only finish fourth.

Koluir ran a splendid race in the TauhcrenlV'au Handicap. She was handy right through the mile and a distance, and only succumbed to Elocution liy a neck. The Kokeliy liinre is Improving fast, and her effort on Monday was probably the best rnce she has v-on.

rtonvllle and .T'istlfieatinn were made favourites In the Walohlne Hark Handicap, for what reason it is hard to say. Justification was doing fairly well up till the turn, when she ran wide, and settled her chance of winning. BonvSlle galloped UUe an old draught horse for part of the journey. Zalilsm came nicely on the inside down the straight, and leaving Ksperanco , and Wakatcre well behind, won as shsi liked. The Martian fllly Kspcranee Rives one the impression that'she will turn out I a payable proposition for her owner.

Comment. despite her erratic performances at times, went out favourite for the Featherston Handicap. If the Provocation mare Is In the moorl it will take a (rood "tin to .hent her. Monday was apparently fine of her trying (iays. She showed that shi> meant business from the start, and when Kec] Signal and Phliotnr'a attempted to dispute the result with her. she Just pnt on a pound or two e\tra of st»am and the race was nil over. Red Slirnal had to struggle desperately to get within a length or ( omment.

Aho,,t as poor n lot of racers as one would see on any country racecourse faced the starter In The Shorts. Orav had the: mount on -Cori'llon. nnd the public sacelv rTTnii ,hat ,hP ra '' e wns "" oTor - * nt! 11 lon Onnsfiqpfip 11V WPTIt OUf n hnt favourite. Deacon put up a bit of n flsht coming down the straight, hut Gray shoolr his mount up. and Cotillion walked (n ny aooiit two I"n:r»h-\ The rest of thn field straggled home like lost sheep.
