WAR MEMORIALS.
AND PATRIOTIC FUNDS. APPLICATIONS DECLINED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday. Patriotic or war fund societies are not to be permitted to expend any part of their money* on war memorials. Upon that point the Government takes a firm etand.
According to what the Hon. G. AY. Eiifisell eaid to-day, a larpe number of applications are being received from societies to be allowed to use their fundri for war memorial purposes. These moneys, sai.l the Minister, were subscribed for the benefit of soldiers and not for th" purpose of putting up concert halk an;l that kind of thing , . Xo consent could he friven to patriotic societies to use their funds for any purpose p\cppt for tlie benefit of soldiers and their dependents.
