TRAMWAYMEN'S PAY.

A UNIQUE APPLICATION. (Ey Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. A unique application was made in the Arbitration Court to-day, when the Tramway Board applied for a bonus of ten per cent to its omployees.

Mr. F. Thomson (general manager) explained that the union had refused to meet the Board in conference. The Board had voluntarily given a bonus of 7J per cent since October last, and it now wished the Court to legally fix the bonus under the War Regulations Act.

Mr. H. Hunter (union secretary) opposed the application, on the ground that Christchurch employees should receive the same wages as those given in Wellington. He submitted counter-proposals, but the Court said it could not consider them, as it could not alter the award unless a ballot of members of the. union were taken on the proposed alteration. The Court reserved decision on the Board's application.
