DISENFRANCHISED SOLDIERS.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I beg leave as a very old resident oi New Zealand to endorse last night's letter from Mr. Sidney Thorne George. If, as I understand, they were promised votes on the liquor question on production of their soldiers' papers, -surely New Zealand will not, through any legal quibble, withdraw a promise to men to whom we owe- so much. Before any such controversial subject as prohibition was brought so prominently forward, onr first duty was to have carried out our duties to the returned men. One of the meanest things possible to man or Government is to break faith, and if they do not get the votes as promised we shall be ashamed to look a soldier in the face.—l am, etc., C. J. HUTCHINSON.
