PROGRAMME AMENDED

MILITARY DISPLAY.

A largely attended meeting of local bodies' representatives was held at the Town Kail yesterday afternoon to finally consider the question of the peace celebrations in Auckland. The Mayor prosided. The tentative programme already published was amended in some details. Among these is the inclusion of a military display in the Monday celebrations, which will be a distinctive'feature of the day's proceedings. Tbe arrangements for this are being undertaken by Colonel Potter, O.C.D. Tbe wbole of the territorials, with returned soldiers, will take part. An offer from the Headmasters' Association to organise the children from the State schools was accepted, and displays by the children will be held on Tuesday. The committee at the same time is sending also out invitations to the controllers of the secondary schools, and also the Catholic schools, as this is a national celebration in \v_ic-h all interests must take part. The offer of the aquatic bodies to arrange an aquatic display for the second day was accepted, and they have been asked to complete arrangements- Local bodies representatives will take part in the procession on the first day, all sections of the procession starting from lower Queen Street. A feature of the local bodies section will be a decorative display of motor car 3, as each local body has been requested to make its own arrangements and fto decorate its own cars. Among other features on the first day will be a military sports tourney to be held on the Domain. All business people will be asked to illuminate tbeir buildings in accordance witli the earlier arrangements. The fullest details of the celebrations, which are £o extend over three days, will shortly be announced. The date is as yet indefinite, said the Mayor this morning, but there appears to b. an indication that it wiU not be long delayed, and in the meantime no time will be lost in completing the arrangements.
