MAORI SOLDIERS.

— .m RETURNING TO AUCKLAND. IN FIFTEEN DAYS. In regard to the arrival of the Maori Pioneer Battalion, the Mayor (Mr. J. H. Gunson) has received this morning the following telegram from the Minister of Defence (Hon. Sir J. Allen) :— "Advice was received yesterday that" the Westmoreland had sailed from Colon on March 15 for Auckland, where she is now due on April 5, one week earlier than anticipated. After fully considering the matter it has been found impracticable to send the Westmoreland to Gisborne, and she will therefore definitely make Auckland her port of call. If it is passible to arrange for the East Coast Maoris to be sent by coastal Rteamer from Auckland to Gisborne I will endeavour to arrange accordingly."
