NATIONAL IRISH DANCING.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —The Irish dancing competition, held in the Domain on St. Patrick's Day, usually attracts hundreds of people. People expect to see the Irish jig danced with more than the usual amount of spirit, and were, I think, disappointed in the tame style of dancing introduced on Saturday. Why should any judge have the authority to alter a competitor's style of dancing (forbidding skirt movements, etc.), just before competing, and introduce a style widely differing from the Irish jig as we are used to it? National dancing is becoming more popular every year, but if restrictions are to be introduced in Auckland it certainly will not encourage anyone to learn it.— I am, etc., ONE DISAPPOINTED.
