QUEEN MARY NEEDLEWORK GUILD.

A pleasant function took place on Tuesday afternoon, when Mrs. V. Smith, lady corps superintendent, invited all the members of, the Queen Mary Needlework Guild, of which she is the head, to afternoon tea at the kiosk in the Domain. The weather was perfect. Mrs. Smith received her guests on one of the small lawns overshadowed by beautifiil shady trees. The greenhouses were visited by the guests during- the afternoon, the begonia house coining in for' unstinted admiration, the blooms being extremely fine in colouring, size and variety. A dainty tea was cerved under the Inroad pagola. During a pause in the conversation one of the members presented to Mrs. Smith a small memento of the occasion, accompanied by a letter, which expressed the thanks of the guild for "the unfailing courtesy and kindnees during the four and a-half years in which we have been associated under your leadership for the sick and wounded soldier?." Mrs. Smith was visibly moved by the kind thought, and in her acknowledgment of the gift, referred to the perfect harmony which had existed between herself and the members during the war period, and also made reference to • the tremendous j amount of war work that had been done for our soldiers and sailors and their dependents by the Q.M.N. Guild during that time, and which had always been gratefully acknowledged from headquarters, St. John's Gate. London. The beautiful grounds and scenery added greatly to the enjoyment of * a very pleasant afternoon.,
