GARDEN PARTY.

The beautiful grounds belonging to Mrs. G. H. Wilson, Uplands Road, Remuera, were gay with colour on Saturday afternoon, when a very successful garden party and sale of work took place in aid of the refurnishing funds of t he Y.M.L'.A. It was organised ana arranged by the women's auxiliary to replace any articled which might be needed when the Soldiers' Club gives up its occupancy of the building. A large number of guests were present, and the bright frocks and the g-ay grounds made up a brilliant picture. Jn opening , the proceedings the 'Mayoress, Mrs. Gunson. said thac although the association had been so long - in existence, for *i;i years in fact, ii. was not till lately that the assistance of the ladies bad been solicited, and they were very glad to help in any manner an institution that had done so much good forj the community. The stalls were arranged upon the croquet lawn, and consisted of fancy goods stall, in charge of Mesdamea Wainwright and Johnstone; the cake stall, in charge of ,Mesdanies Buchanan, Hegman and Strotton; the fruit and flower stall, in charge ot Mesdames Hood and Henderson. The sweets were under the control of Mesdames Duncan and Whitehead. Afternoon tea was in charge of Mesdames Burnett, Rhodes and Hokkworth, with willing helpers. During the afternoon music was supplied by Seymour's orchestra, and the takings totalled £75 10/0,- which will, be of great assistance in the future to help refurnish the V.M.C.A. building.
