HARBOUR RECLAMATION.

•BIG SCHEME IN WELU-GTON. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent-l WELLINGTON, this day. Plans have now been practically completed for the big harbour and railway development scheme at the —lorndon end of Wellington. A conference of engineers and chief officers of the railways, Harbour Board, and City Council recently had before it a plan providing for the extension of the present reclamation, now railway station and goods yard, sheds, and improvements to harbour facilities. In an interview to-day the Mayor explained that the proposals meant that a large area will be required for-the new passenger station and ail accessories. Shed accommodation for goods and sidings for general local traffic ■would cover a great area. The fifty acres set apart for this pur-pose would not be excessive. The proposed area for the Harbour Board was ten acres, which would be utilised as a quayside with room for sheds. The existing retaining wall would be extended. ,Special berthing accommodation for colliers was proposed, with an expeditious mechanical coal-handling system. Five acres were set apart for a main public roadway connecting Waterloo quay and Hutt Boad. The proposals entail the sacrifice of the Thorndon Esplanade, and baths, but the Mayor suggests that other baths and recreation area will be fonnd.
