FRACAS AT HIKURANGI.
CONSTABLE SEVERELY INJURED. THREE MEN* ARRESTED, illy Telegraph—Press Association.) WHANGAREI, this day. As the result of a fracas at Hikurangi on Saturday night three men were arrested on Sunday. At the Whangarel Magistrate's Court to-day George Rowe, Wa McEHigot and Thomas Pickles were charged that at Hikurangi on October 12 they assaulted Constable J. H. Armstrong, causing actual bodily barm. Se.nior-Sergt. Moore stated that Constable Armstrong went on Saturday night to Valley Road to disperse the men, when a. struggle ensued, in the course of which Armstrong received several cuts, being hit on the. bead with a bottle, necessitating medical treatment. He was unable to appear. Sergt. Moore asked for a remand and substantial bail. Accused were remanded till Friday on bail, individually £.50 in addition to two sureties of £50 each, which were forthcoming.
