POLICE COURT.
(Before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.) GIVEN A CHANCE. Arthur-James Fischer (34), who had been employed as a porter at the Suffolk Hotel, admitted that on Monday last he stole a flask of whisky, value 5/-, belonging to his employer. It was stated that the man had recently returned from the war, and had no previous conviction against him. His Worship decided to give the man a chance by exercising the discretion allowed him not to enter a convtcion for theft, and he accordingly discharged the prisoner. MISCEIiIiANEOTrS. Raymond X? Little (18), convicted of causing damage to a motor-car in connection with an illicit joy-ride, was admitted to probation for eighteen months. A lad of eight years admitted that last Saturday he stole a. handbag containing £3 from "a lolly-shop in Queen Street. The charge was adjourned for six months on the understanding tliat during that time the t>oy should live with the Juvenile Probation Officer. Two girls and two boys, of ages ranging from fourteen to nine years, came up as children not under proper control, and were committed to industrial schools until the mother showed she was able to take care of them.
