WAR MONEY VALUES.
AN EXPERT COMMITTEE SUGGESTED. BEMItS TO COAQtERCE CONFERENCE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. A tpecial meeting of the Chamber of Commerce adopted the following remits for submission to the forthcoming conference at Wellington: — (1) This Chamber is of opinion that the Government should, investigate the principle of premium bonds, in order to draw the fullest possible contribution from the people for the forthcoming War Loan; (2) this Chamber views with dismay the alarming increase in the cost of living, which it ascribes chiefly to inflated c llr " rency. It is of opinion that in order to avoid strikes and serious industrial unre6t, which is inevitable if prices continue to ri»e, the Government should immediately appoint a committee of financial experts to investigate the whole monetary system, and formulate a scheme to restore the currency to the greatest degree of stability possible under prevailing conditions; (3) that urgent representations be made to the Government concerning the seriousness of the high cost of manures to the whole of the Dominion, as a regular and plentiful supply ol" cheap manures is a sine qua non of the future development and maintenance of the land; (4) the conference is of opinion that the Government should set up a committee to investigate the sources of supply, and formulate a echeme to attain this object, aud is also of opinion that it would repay the Government to procure and carry manures at a nominal charge, and sell them to farmers at practically cost prW.
