EXTENSION ANNOUNCED. : At the Orphans' Club gathering on Saturday evening the Governor-General announced that those who had sent him to I New Zealand had asked him to remain : longer than the usual term. He had been in New Zealand for five and a-half years, and had largely exceeded the average period for which a representative of the Sovereign remained in any of the Dominions. He considered it a great honour and privilege to represent the King in New Zealand at a time like the present. Since his arrival in the Dominion he had received many kindnesses at the hands of the people of the country, and not the least from the residents of j Auckland.
