Dr. H. Dean Bamford was a passenger South by the express last evening. | Mr. A. \V. Head has been gazetted censor of telegraph messages at Awanui.
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Cranston, of San Francisco, are staving at the Grand Hotel.
Major Gabites, O.C. medical camp at Awapuni, has been promoted to LieutColonel.
The Rev. Paul and Mra. Cane, missionaries at Samoa, are visiting Ne** Zealand.
Mr. T. J. Brownell, station-master, Christchurch, will spend a portion of his leave in Auckland.
Lieut-Colonel W. 11. Moorhouse arrived from the South, by the express yesterday morning.
Mr. T. B. Salmon, late chief postmaster at Blenheim, has been appointed to a similar position at Oamaru.
Mr. and Mrs. D. P. O'Leary, of Northcote, havo returned from a month's holiday visit to Ta-anaki and Wellington. Air. J. J. Pickett, chief postmaster at Gisborne, has been transferred to the charge of Timaru. He joined the Post and Telegraph service 45 years ago.
Mr. John Cullen has returned from Awanui, where he had been in connection with his duties as commissioner in
charge of the registration of Jugoslavs.
Colonel the Hon. W. E. Collins, of Wellington, has relinquished his appointment of Assistant Director of Medical Services in the Wellington Military District.
Air. S. Robb, of New Plymouth, has [succeeded Mr. W. J. Mason as general secretary of the Y.M.C-A. at Christchurch. The latter is to take up duties as a field secretary.
Mr. H. B. Harper, secretary to Samuel Vaile and Sons, Ltd., was presented by the office staff with a token of esteem prior to- leaving for camp. Mr. H. E. Yajle and Mr. T. B. Clay made the presentation on behalf of the staff.
The Hon. E. W. Alison, M.L.C., presi- ' dent of the N.Z. Mine-owners* Association, has returned from Wellington, where he attended a conference -with, representatives of the Miners' Federation. i This was held at the request of the Government to discuss matters affecting conditions in the coal mining industry.
Captain Walter Frater has resigned his seat on the vestry of St. Mary's Cathedral after 32 years' service. At its meeting last week the vestry passed a resolution expressing its sincere regret at Captain -"rater's resignation, and placing on record its high appreciation of the many and valuable services rendered .by him to the cathedral parish during his long official connection with it.
